Edgar W. Clark fought in 13 of the most famous battles of the Civil War for the 3rd Michigan Infantry Regiment. Over 40 days of combat, he survived the battles of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Spotsylvania and Petersburg. He was shot in the left knee at Petersburg and survived amputation and gangrene. Thanks to 181 letters sent home to his wife, Catherine, in Lansing, Mich., his great-great-grandson, Michael P. Through letters sent to his wife, Catherine, in Lansing, Mich., the listener travels with Edgar as he participates in 13 battles and 40 days of combat and hears how his wife at home is faring. The podcast combines insight into the social and family aspects of the war with commentary on the military and political aspects from Edgar's great-great-grandson, Michael P. Clark.
